Hi Gang,

I am sitting in snowbound Kent, so I thought it was the perfect time for a catch up, after my Jet-setting trip to Spain! I ask you? Some people!

When we last spoke, I was reporting from a chilly, Costa Del Sol!  I can say this… Not the place for winter sun, although that wasn’t the purpose of the trip, but that’s another story.  Our last trip to that part of Spain was a few years ago, and at the end of their summer, so the weather was better, and this trip, my legs never saw shorts, nor my eye’s sunglasses? Except when the sun was in my eyes, on the ferry to Morocco.

Not a trip I would write off, but I wouldn’t attempt it again, unless it was in the summer, fortunately, our apartment had air conditioning, which also was a heater, so our apartment was a constant 29c, which is more than I can say for the temperature outside.

Yes, there were a few highlight’s.. A Fantastic meal or two, and some great walks, managed to get all my souvenirs in Tangiers at a bargain price, so smile when you get your fridge magnet! Or bit of Silver!!  The trip to the Med, was breathtaking, and the guy trying to sell me, a west ham fan, a Barcelona shirt… for a good price.. Was well worth watching!

We return home to the prospect of snow… which didn’t come until today! But as I had come from the cold, back to the cold.. I wasn’t to put out by the prospect. We had just got a new four-wheel drive SUV so we were ready! But unfortunately, we were ready, just the rest of the country… Not so!

Now, I know with all that is going on in the world, Snow.. Is the very least of our worries? And it’s not like we didn’t know it was coming, the weatherman, and newspapers have been talking about it for days!! So it happens? And the country comes to a standstill! Come on!! I got warnings sent to my phone!! YOU LIVE IN KENT!! WATCH OUT!!

Yet I woke up this morning to warning from the breakfast television presenters, telling me (yet again!!), how some areas where caught out! By the amount of snow!! My warning, mentioned ‘worst for many years’.. That would be a ‘heads up?’ Alas… The words ‘Snow’ and ‘Bound’ will be mentioned a lot in the next 24 hours! Granted it’s great for the kids! I have seen some kids, and their parents in the village building snowmen, and saw the biggest ball of snow being rolled down the street, which is all fine and dandy. And I am fortunate enough, that some of my work, I can do from my home.. But the rest of the country cannot, and this has cost a country, that is currently leaking money, due to Brexit, and other issues, which continue to bleed our country.. don’t get me started..

So I shall move on..

I work in a business with many competitors, and I try my best to work with others where possible.  As I think it is not only good for business, but good for our industry as a whole.  Not everyone see’s things that way, and good luck to them, each to their own, and everyone has their way of doing things, so good luck to you, and go along on your way.. and take my blessing with you! I am just a guy from the East End of London, and where I come from any dispute is settled with a swift punch in the nose, and brief explanation as to why the nose was bloodied.. A shaking of hands, and you move on!

I have recently found out, that this isn’t the norm? No Bloodied noses? No handshake, and definitely, no explanation! Apparently, the new thing is talk about it!! We are not talking about going to see someone qualified, and getting some much-needed therapy? oh! no! They won’t even come and say it to your face? They will hold a tea party, where you’re the topic of conversation, and then they cast you out… On social media!! And you become the unclean.  I watch it daily, on every social media feed I see these days!! And let’s not get it twisted, the wife and I have had many a good night, watching the public cat-fights! And there have been some classic’s, I have seen unravel on Facebook!

But here’s my point..

Call me old-fashioned, call me even a tad demented.. But surely you get more respect if you go up to the person… Say what you have to say, even if a bloodied nose is the response.  Granted, there may be a few full police cells, and a further burden on the NHS! But Facebook, would make less money, and my feed would be far shorter! Which makes my policy of biding my time, until you least expect it… What works for me..

With all this adverse weather in the UK, one of things that I love about living in a village, is that people go and look in on the elderly in the village, and make sure that they have everything.  I know from living in a city, that this isn’t always the norm, I have lived in places for years, and not know my neighbours, and it is unfortunate that this has how things have become.  But I urge people, in this time of bad weather, and talk of being Snow-bound, that we take a moment out of our day, to go and check in on your elderly, some may not thank you for it, but others will, and that in itself, with make it worthwhile.

And on the bright side, apart from the feeling of community, and helping someone else.  One day, you will be old, and may hope someone was thinking of you!

I heard a funny story about me the other day, now my fame has been known to proceed me.. lol! But sometimes, you hear things about yourself, and you just have to laugh.  Normally, I would name, and shame, and get it out in the open, but the story, was that far-fetched, that I would be embarrassed to repeat it, least of all in my own blog.  But I will say this.. Anyone who knows me, will know that I am always happy to tell the real story.  And the fact that it would be bad for my company to comment… That has never stopped me before, my Defiance has no bounds!

The Week ahead!!  We are in the process of putting together some events, for the Radio Station, and preparations have begun for our 2nd Birthday Bash! And a really special guest, in a really great venue.. More on that soon, we also aim to have all the new features completed for the website, which is now online! Boogie Bunker Radio

It’s that time again!! You know what to do?

Holla at Me!!

Hi Gang,

Greetings from Spain.. As I said in my last Blog, I was off to Spain with the wife for some rest, and recuperation!! We are based near La Calla, Mijas.  Which for anyone who knows anything about Spain, will know it’s along the coast of the Costa del Sol.. Geography lesson over!!

Now, I am going to say this now… The wife is not a fan of Spain! Now there are places, in Spain which are dear to her heart.. Yes, She weird I know..

Anyway, this part of Spain has been known to really get her back up! Now a few years ago we was here, and having spent the previous few weeks in Tenerife, She could not help but make the comparison.. That and the fact that it’s murder to buy a packet of cigarettes after 8pm, more so on a Sunday.. Makes my wife fit to kill!

But, always up for a challenge, and that was October, This was February, it would be different. We were staying on the same resort, and although we had downgraded from last time, we planned to do some touring this time..

Those of you have read my blog before, will know that on holiday, or mainly when we are abroad? Our day’s are made up of good food, lot’s of cocktails, and plenty of walks sightseeing! Or as some of you may call it… Bar hopping!!

We knew that we would get some sun, but we were unlikely to get Bahamas weather, but anything over 18C would make us happy.. and we were looking at 22C with the odd bit of rain! I am going to say this now… Spain can get cold.. DANG!!!  You wake up to clear skies and sunshine.. Open the Balcony door… And DANNNG!! Big Coat today Babe!!

So the plan was to try to keep to places, where we didn’t have to take our Big coats.. North Africa!! Banus! Marbella!! So off we went.. Let’s start backwards.. Marbella is a place I know well, having had a 2 year DJ residency there.. And it’s always good to visit your old stomping ground!  It was a nice day, so stroll cocktail, long story short.. We walked from Marbella to Puerto Banus.. for those who don’t know, it’s around 9 miles!! Things you have to do to get some sun!!

This brings us to-day 3… North Africa!! Tangier.. Now apart from Hashish, and Argon oil, that’s it for me, as far as Morocco goes for me! Call me shallow, but that was all I knew! so was looking forward to the day trip!! Now, how do we do this?? Here’s a tip! do a tour unless you near the port! I saw various prices of trips, and I later found out that if you pre book as part of a package, your likely to get ripped off.. Example, we paid €65 each, for a day trip, which included ferry, tour, and lunch, and shopping, plus a trip to the sea, as The Mediterranean meets the Ocean along the coast, and is quite a site! Now on our coach the others had paid between €100 for the same trip, booked via resort, one American had paid $300 for the same tour booking in the states? Book when your here, and shop around.

Onward! My knowledge of Tangier and Morocco extends to more Hashish… And if you need Argon Oil, I have loads.. Back to the tour… The minute you get off the ferry the street sellers, are primed and waiting.. I have travelled and therefore have encountered my fair share.. And Jamaica, had always for me been the worst for street selling! granted as a black man in Jamaica I encountered less, but the poor tourists.. My Lord!! Anyway anyone who knows what I am talking about!! Take Jamaica off your list… NOW!!

Tangier’s the word for NO! is Lah.. Remember that! it won’t help? But good to learn a new language.. We went for lunch followed by a group of 10 sellers, and when we came out of lunch, which by the way, was very tasty! the group of 10 had turned into 20.. I felt like one of ‘One Direction’ they were like a pack, and as we went in an out of shops the grown got bigger as the word seemed to spread..   I am streetwise, but I can understand this could be a bit much for some, but as we headed back to the coach, and the return trip, there was some rest-bite… Wrong, they would not move, and I think we had one hanging on the back of the coach, as we were doing 30 mph, selling sunglasses at a really good price! until he fell off at a roundabout.. Just as I had me money out, shame really, as they were for YOU??

I have to say, it was a really nice day, and value for money, maybe not so much for my American friend, who paid $300, didn’t have the heart to tell him, how little we paid.. The return trip featured glorious views of Gibraltar, from Tarifa.

So my week has been interesting.. And the wife, has had a coat on a couple of times, which doesn’t please her, but with a couple more days to go! Fingers crossed that she may get a day under the sun..

Holla at Me!!

PS: There rumours of me selling the wife for 4 camels is completely untrue..

Thanks for joining me!

This theme came with the title, and I thought it was highly appropriate, so it stay’s… This Journey has long since begun, but we start a new chapter! So come along for the ride..

Well, I think the best way to kick things off, would be with a little catch up!

‘Fun in the Sun’ month, and a very important time in the Station (Boogie Bunker Radio) Calendar.  We travel to the Island of Tenerife, with a team of DJ’s to play venues across the South of the island.  Tenerife is somewhere I know pretty well, as I have spent a lot of time there over the last few years, and in the 80’s, and have seen many changes over that time, but the island still very much has a place in my heart, the fact that it’s CHEAP! Is an added bonus, and therefore the perfect place for a trip..  It was never my intention to do a trip in any way, I felt that there were sufficient holiday makers on the Island, most of which were Brits, it seemed like we were bringing something different to the Island.  Two years later!! We have a wristband which offers discounts at venues, across the island, as well as discounted trip, and leisure.  So in effect your £40 Wristband can get you up to €350  in discounts across the island.  Entry to all venues are free, and wristband holders are offered discounts on food & drink in venues.

You make your own way to Tenerife, we can’t beat travel agents! and it’s a holiday too.  Yes, we have events running most day’s, but we hope that our events, work alongside your use of the discounts the wristband offers.  I am not going to lie, I made a few compromises this year, and although I had been previously rigid about how I saw things, I compromised, and it’s something I don’t plan to do again where this event is concerned.

With that said I think most, had a great week! And it was clear that the people of Tenerife are beginning to warm, not only to Boogie Bunker Radio, but ‘Fun in the Sun’ So much so that we have been asked to return in June 2018, more about that in the coming weeks, but for many reasons the event was a success, and FITS 2019 looks set to be something very special.

Before we leave January, and FITS 2018.  We have been doing some work on our website, which will upgrade the current site and add some additional features to the site.  As well as some new branding, the overall look of the site will feel fresher, and hopefully more exciting to the user..  The new website will be online sometime mid February!

We posted a Competition on our old website, to win a trip for 2 to FITS 2019!  We will extend the entries to this competition, and the closing date for sending entries! Deadline for Entries have been extended to March 20th 2018! and details will be posted to the website, on Launch.

As I said earlier, returned back from Tenerife and into planning for the return in June.  I also returned to scheduling issues at the station.  We are a few weeks away from appointing a full-time Station manager, and therefore the day-to-day running has fallen to me.  We have a great format on the station, and are responsible for many first’s in online radio.  That is not me blowing my own trumpet, over the last 12 month, myself, and the previous station Manager, had worked on the format, and figures showed that we have got it right, so if it’s not broken!! With that in mind, I like to replace shows, like for like within the schedule.  We have a waiting list of people awaiting shows, so much so that we have a guest mix slot, where we play mixes sent to us.

We are a worldwide station based in the UK, and we have access to some of the best DJ’s in Tenerife! And we found a couple of stars during FITS 2018, and it was only right to find a slot for them, and they find themselves in our new schedule.  We wish those moving on to pastures new, all the best for the future, as they begin their journey.

Here’s where we are!

Here’s the bit where I normally bring things up to date, chat a bit about family.. Blah, Blah!  And I make a joke about the Wife, still being alive!! Far be it for me to disappoint anyone, but this time I will have to save it! As unfortunately I can’t say too much on the family front, which can only mean a baby is due, or someone is terminal, or someone is due in front of a Judge? Either way, I will have to save it for a future posting….

I fly out to Malaga (Spain) in the next 24 hours, for a bit of down time with the wife, and do a bit of Radio.  As we come back to a busy March, With our regular LIVE event, ‘Soul by the Sea’ at The Diver’s Arms, Herne Bay, Kent. (10th March 2018 – Website for details).  And the start on the new schedule on Boogie Bunker Radio.  With the addition of the brand new website, it’s an interesting few weeks ahead.

I am in a different place now, than when I last wrote a blog, and I did get myself in trouble.  I would like to say that I have mellowed, and that my past rants, and finger-pointing at our Government, and in some cases other Governments, has come to and end, and I am content with spending my Saturday afternoons in my seat at the London Stadium, watching West Ham United! But alas I cannot… I am still going to say what I feel, and probably upset a few along the way, this is never my intention, but you can’t please everyone? Stuff with me is pretty much Black & White! It is, what it is? As the kids say these day’s.

I hope I will bring some laughs along the way, but at the very least I will give you something to make a comment about, and good bad, or indifferent, I will post them! If I have an opinion then so do you, and feel free to voice them… Try and keep it clean, and so will I…

You know what to do!!!
